Were it not a multi billion dollar international business, you'd think bottled water was a corporate prank, after all, one quarter of it is simply filtered tap water. Take a tour into the swilling fields.
The world's most expensive tap water is Kana Nigari from Hawaii. It sells for £15 for a 2oz bottle. That's £255 a litre. Don't use it on your plants, they'll be clamoring for their own penthouse terrace.
When Decanter magazine conducted a blind tasting of 24 water brands, tap water was ranked joint third, 15 places higher than 420 Volcanic which sells in Claridges for £50 a litre.
In fact Claridges takes its water so seriously that it has a bottled water menu, offering 30 of the world's most exclusive waters.
Not to be left out, the Ritz Carlton in New York has its own water sommelier, advising thirsty clientele on how to pass the best water.
Then there's the ‘Gourmet Bottled Water', Bling H2O, whose frosted glass bottles are decorated with handcrafted Swarovski Crystals. One bottle of Bling sells at the modest price of £20 - a must-have for celebrity idiots across the world.
America's top selling water brand is Fiji water. Each 1litre bottle travels around 8,700km to reach the table and requires 81g of fossil fuels to get it there. (Meanwhile in Fiji, fully one-third of the population doesn't have access to safe clean drinking water.)
